Avalon, New Jersey
is a small summer resort town in Cape May County that was founded as a shipbuilding and cedar mining community centuries ago. Located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, it remains largely rural and a summer vacation resort area, where many people own second homes. Avalon is one of New Jersey’s preferred destinations for outdoor recreation. Pristine beaches, vast marshland, cultural and historical sites, boating, fishing, amusement parks and casinos are all within the area. The major industries in Cape May County are education, health and social services, followed by art, entertainment, hotels, restaurants and recreation. Retail trade, construction and public administration are the other main industries in the Avalon area.
